God Chose You 1 Peter 2:9

Darkness surrounds us! Darkness will try to overtake us. Darkness will send us into a panic. Darkness by definition is the partial or total absence of light. It can also be wickedness or evil. Darkness! Darkness can be associated with the gothic and demonic nature. Darkness! What do you consider darkness!

Well today, this world can appear pretty dark! Some may consider the color of your skin to be associated with darkness. But I’m so glad that my destiny lies only in the hands of God.

Today I want to encourage you, that although there may be darkness all around us, God has called us into His marvelous light. He chose you! He chose you to be a part of His kingdom. He chose you to speak up in the midst of injustice! He chose you to worship Him! He chose you to stand firm on His Word! He chose you to enter into this day! He chose you to heal your body! He chose you to protect you from danger! He chose you to keep you in His care! He chose you to bless with that house! He chose you to bless with that car! He chose you to bear your children! He chose you to be a wife or a husband. He chose you to speak life into someone else! He chose you to preach the gospel! He chose you to sing his praises! He chose you to carry His gifts and talents and carefully use them! He chose you in spite of where you came from! He chose you in spite of who you’ve been with! He chose you in spite of your past addictions. He chose you!!!!

This beginning of this particular scripture tells us to get rid of evil behavior. We should want to mature into the spiritual beings that God has called us to be. Could you imagine being a newborn baby for life? Verse 7 says, “Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, the stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone” (we’ve heard that before). Jesus is the cornerstone and the scripture tells us that we are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. But we have to trust and honor him! In order to do so, we have to pull the shades back and let the light come in.

I’ve always wanted some of those room-darkening curtains. Being that I work at night, sleeping during the day is sometimes hard because the light can be so bright! So the room darkening curtains would keep it dark in the room. But I can’t stay in the dark forever! Eventually I’d have to open the curtains and let the light in!

The scripture tells us that those who don’t trust him or recognize His power and honor, will stumble over Him for disobedience. Verse 9 says, “but you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light”. My friend, He chose you! No matter what they told you that you couldn’t do, God chose you! God chose you to represent Him! What a privilege and an honor to represent the King of Kings?! Your job doesn’t matter. Your house doesn’t matter. Your degree doesn’t matter. Your title doesn’t matter.

Your value is not weighed on your accomplishments or accolades. But your value comes from being a child of the King! God chose you to come out of darkness into His marvelous light! Darkness has no more room for you. God chose you to step into the light and share of His goodness! There’s nothing that darkness can do for you. As we all can see from the darkness of this cold world, it means us absolutely no good! God chose you and He still chooses you!! Welcome to the lighthouse!!

Prayer:

Father God we thank you for your love. We thank you God for divine invitation. We thank you God for choosing us to represent all that you are! We thank you for giving us a sound enough mind to come out of the darkness. Whether we had to crawl, walk, or run; we’re just glad that we got out! So God thank you for trusting us with your Word! Thank you for finding value in us even when we couldn’t see it in ourselves. Thank you God for we know that everything that we need rests in you and not in this world! We thank you God that although we’ve been experiencing heavy hearts and some disgusting feelings about the things going on today, that we can still trust your love for us! God thank you for being who you are! Thank you God for loving us  when others don’t show us that same love! Thank you God for fearfully and wonderfully making us. You purposefully made us the way that we are, and today of all days we value that! We value you Lord for you value us! So God thank you for choosing us! We want to represent you well! I pray that we don’t continue to let you down! We love you Lord!

In Jesus name, It is so and So it is!

Amen.
